Aston Villa vs Tottenham: Emery counts cost as up to a dozen players ruled out

Aston Villa will arrive at their upcoming Premier League encounter with Tottenham Hotspur operating with significantly depleted resources, with as many as twelve players currently unavailable across both clubs.

Villa manager Unai Emery has admitted that providing a comprehensive list of absentees has become increasingly challenging given the volume of injuries within his squad.

The Spanish coach outlined several confirmed absences ahead of the fixture, citing Marco Bizot, Amadou Onana, Modou Keba Cisse, Pau Torres, Ian Maatsen, Leon Goretzka and Brian Madjo as players who will definitely not feature.

However, positive news for the visitors comes in the form of expected returns for Matty Cash and Joao Gomes, with Cash reportedly having reached full fitness.

Tottenham, meanwhile, continue to manage extended injury problems.

Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons remain sidelined as they continue their rehabilitation following anterior cruciate ligament ruptures.

Dejan Kulusevski is also progressing through his recovery from a serious knee complaint that kept him unavailable for in excess of eighteen months before his early September return.

The Swedish international deserves opportunities to resume his career.

Regarding the attacking options at his disposal, head coach Roberto De Zerbi confirmed that those recently returning from injury are ready for selection, having featured for limited periods during the recent fixture at Nottingham and demonstrating encouraging signs despite the obvious rustiness that accompanies extended periods without competitive action.

Richarlison continues to be unavailable for Premier League participation, with the Brazilian’s unavailability having been confirmed separately.
