Speaking on Monday Night Football, Neville admitted he found the situation bewildering. He expressed his regard for both the club and the manager while observing the team and substitutes who featured at Brighton. Neville noted that the departures of key players had stripped the squad of its experience and questioned how the team would manage to compete at the highest level. He stated his concern for Villa’s prospects and his confusion at the current circumstances.
Carragher remarked that questions around Profit and Sustainability Rules had persistently surrounded the club, acknowledging this frustrated supporters. He pointed out that fans watched other teams like Tottenham, who had finished 17th for two consecutive seasons, spend substantial amounts on players such as Sandro Tonali. Carragher suggested this must be a source of immense frustration for Villa supporters and noted that while regulations might be adjusted in future, clubs like Newcastle and Aston Villa appeared to have reached a ceiling that prevented further progression.
